CARD Swans at the Rapids

This painting was inspired by a winter visit to Blind River Rapids. We saw 14 swans that day (7 feeding and 7 winging up the slough). I started thinking about how special the rapids have to be to draw in swans to this snowy winter landscape. From above, we see only the white snowy landscape, but in the flowing waters of the slough, swans harvest the nutritious tubers and rhizomes of aquatic plants. It is one of very few fresh water areas in our region like this.
